Interesting news regarding your tyres and saving money
Did you know, you can save money by having your tyres correctly inflated? At Car Tyre World our technicians know exactly how to advise on the correct tyre pressure your brand needs. Tyre inflation seems to come second behind tyre wear and tear in driver safety considerations. However having tyres inflated at the correct pressure makes driving safer, cheaper and is better for the environment.
In our latest article, we are going to focus on these three factors and aims to raise awareness of tyre safety.
Tyres and safety
The first and most crucial reason for having the correct tyre pressure set is safety. Having the correct tyre pressure is an extremely important safety consideration; incorrectly inflated tyres greatly increase accident risk. Research shows that many drivers do not carry out basic tyre safety checks. Driving with under-inflated tyres can increase the risk of having an accident as handling and braking distances can be affected. According to Romano Daniels, Bridgestone General Manager Marketing and Communications, tyre underinflation was one of the most serious risk factors for crashes. An underinflated tyre runs at a higher temperature and the subsequent heat and friction can affect handling and also cause the tyre to disintegrate and cause a blowout. Safety is the first priority of any tyre check and a proper check of tyre pressure should be carried out on a regular basis. A visual check is not accurate enough to calculate the pressure in the tyre so invest in a tyre pressure gauge for accurate measurements. Taking measurement is a very simple process. Generally speaking, a tyre loses around 2lbs of pressure per month however in warmer months this increases. Accurate checks can be made with tyre pressure gauge and remember to always check when the tyres are cold. Check at least every couple of weeks but this should be increased in warmer weather.
Tyres and saving money
The economy is the second consideration. Under-inflated tyres make your vehicle less fuel-efficient. It takes more fuel to make a journey. The easiest way to think about this is when a bike tyre is under-inflated how much harder is it to pedal? It is the same principle as a vehicle. An underinflated tyre also wears away at a much quicker rate meaning you are losing money on two fronts. More fuel and more tyre replacements are required if you run your vehicle with under-inflated tyres.
The environment
The third consideration is the environment; being a factor on most people’s minds these days it is an important consideration. Using incorrectly inflated tyres causes a loss of fuel efficiency and an increase in C02 usage. Managing the amount of c02 we produce is often an element of choice most people do not actively get to use day to day. But, having your tyres inflated correctly is one area most of us can help the environment.
As you can see correctly inflated tyres are a key consideration for any driver, sometimes overlooked it is a crucial check to make.
