Suffering from uneven tyre wear? These could be some of the reasons
Uneven tyre wear can be a huge frustration to many drivers on the roads today. Your tyres are a huge important safety feature on your car which is why it is so important to keep them regularly maintained to a good condition. No matter what type of tyre your vehicle has installed, over time and use they will begin to wear down with the weight of the vehicle and the load in the car. The legal limit for changing your tyres is 1.6mm, if your tread is ant lower, you could be in with a potential fine.
So what exactly can cause uneven tyre wear?
Excessive braking.
Especially when driving at high speeds, excessive or harsh braking can begin the process of uneven tyre wear. Braking like this can even lead to wheel locks and flat tyres that create the uneven wear down.
Suspension issues.
If you are having issues with the suspension in your car there can be an increase in uneven pressure on the tyres therefore if you do notice any change with your springs and shocks, the quicker it is resolved the better.
The over or under-inflation in tyres.
Tyre pressure is something that is best monitored frequently. Tyres that are not at the correct pressure can begin to create uneven pressure on the surface, leading again to the uneven wear.
Wheel misalignment.
This leads to a more uneven pressure on the road and in turn a more uneven wear on your tyres. Well misalignment can occur from things as small as hitting a curb or to a large-scale accident, keeping on top of regular checks ensures your car is not more vulnerable to this uneven wear.
In order to check your vehicle of uneven tyre wear keep regular checks on your tyres, this can be done by checking:
– If the tyres are more worn down in the sides or the centres
– They have patches that are more worn than the majority of the tyre
– Some parts feel rougher or more smooth to touch
– The tread depth of each tyre to give an indication of if any tyres are wearing much faster or slower than the others.
