How to keep your car tyres looking new
Cleaning your car is something that most car owners get the hang of pretty quick! But there is one part of keeping your car looking new and fresh that can be slightly more difficult, and that often is the tyres. Tyres are the point of contact with the road and are most vulnerable to degrading the longer they are in use. The key to keeping the tyres on your car looking new is to keep then clean and looked after, so we have a few tips to help you along the way.
- Rinse. Begin with using a hose to remove loose debris and soften any dirt that may be stuck. This can be easier with high pressure hoses.
- Wash. The key to this part is to use warm soapy water and cover every inch of the tyre. This layer should then be left on the tyre to soak for a few minutes.
- Brush on the tread. Once the soap has had a few minutes to soak on the tyre, use a hard-bristled brush to push the solution into the tyre and remove dirt that the hose was not able to get off. When doing this ensure that you are rinsing the bush between each tyre so that dirt is not transferred. Once you are happy with the cleanliness of the tyre, repeat the first step to remove all soap.
- Dry. Use a rag to quickly dry the majority of the tyre. Switching to a microfibre cloth can help reach that perfect look as they absorb water very effectively and will leave the tyre in peak condition.
The perfect finish for your car tyres
For those looking for a perfect finish, tyre dressing can be used. This is used to help enhance the shine on your tyres to make them look as though they are brand new. Tyre dressing works almost like a paint, it blackens the tyre removing faded black rubber patches and can make a huge difference to the overall new look of your vehicle. Just be mindful that only the sidewall of the tyre should have tyre dressing used, as it can lead to a reduced grip if used all over, reducing road safety.
